Abstract
Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) production is concentrated in Asia and Africa,
where mostly smallholder farmers under rain-fed conditions grow the crop with limited
inputs, in soils with poor fertility status. Genetically modified (GM) crop varieties - such
as those resistant to drought, water logging, soil acidity, salinity and extreme
temperatures could help to sustain farming in marginal areas and to restore degraded land
to production. Development of transgenic plants over-expressing transcription factors is
emerging as a more viable strategy for improving productivity under water limited
conditions. It was hypothesized that transgenic plants overexpressing DREB2A would
show tolerance to abiotic stresses
