The present investigation entitled ‘Milk production efficiency of Red Sindhi cow’ was undertaken to assess the magnitude of different factors affecting production and production efficiency traits. The data pertaining to milk production of 138 purebred Red Sindhi cows maintained at College of Agriculture, Dhule spread over a period of 20 years (1991 - 2010) was used for the present investigation. Effect of age at first calving, season of calving, period of calving and lactation order over economic traits were studied by adopting the least square technique (Harvey 1990). Duncan’s multiple range test (DMRT) as modified by Kramer (1957) was used for comparison between pairs of means. Interrelationships between economically important traits were studied. The overall least square means for LL, DP, CI, LMY, 300DMY, DMY/LL, DMY/300DLL, DMY/CI, MPEK and MPEKD were 310.876 ± 6.07days, 81.99 ± 4.78 days, 392.86 ± 7.92 days, 1816.66 ± 38.95 kg, 1820.56 ± 34.18 kg, 5.96 ± 0.11 kg, 6.06 ± 0.11 kg, 4.72 ± 0.10 kg, 6.75 ± 0.23 kg and 20.82 ± 0.92 gm, respectively. The effect of lactation order was found to be highly significant on lactation length. Similarly, effect of period of calving was highly significant on LMY, 300 DMY, DMY/LL, DMY/300DLL and DMY/CI. However, effect of age at first calving and season of calving was found to be non significant over all the traits under study. The correlation of lactation length with calving interval, lactation milk yield and MPEK was positive and highly significant. Significant but negative in magnitude correlation was found between lactation length and DMY/LL, DMY/300 days, MPEKD. The correlation between dry period and calving interval was found to be highly significant and positive, whereas that of dry period and DMY/CI was highly significant but negative in magnitude. The correlation of calving interval with LMY and MPEK was positive and highly significant. Correlation of calving interval with DMY/LL, DMY/300 days, DMY/CI and MPEKD was significant but negative in magnitude. The correlation amongst the traits viz. LMY, DMY/LL, DMY/300 days, DMY/CI, MPEK and MPEKD was positive and highly significant.en_US
