Abstract
ABSTRACT
The present investigation entitled “Effect of different farming practices and mulches
on production of strawberry under wild pomegranate-based agroforestry systems” was carried
out at the experimental farm Pandah of Department of of Silviculture and Agroforestry, Dr Y
S Parmar University of Horticulture and Nauni, Solan, Himachal Pradesh, during the year
2022-2023. The experiment was laid out in RBD (2 factorial) with three replications
comprising of three organic mulchesand three manures with 13 Treatments viz., T1 (Control),
T2 (Bamboo mulch alone), T3 (Bamboo mulch + Natural farming), T4 (Bamboo mulch+
RDF), T5 (Bamboo mulch+ FYM), T6 (Pine mulch alone), T7 (Pine mulch+ Natural farming),
T8 (Pine mulch+ RDF), T9 (Pine mulch+ FYM), T10 (Poplar mulch alone), T11 (Poplar mulch
+ Natural farming), T12 (Poplar mulch+ RDF) and T13 (Poplar mulch+ FYM).Treatments
mulched with pine needles along with organic manures showed best results in most of the
growth and yield parameters of strawberry. Based on the findings yield of strawberry was
recorded best in treatment (T9) which was mulched with pine needles along with farm yard
manure under wild pomegranate, displayed better results for yield parameters for strawberry
than for sole cropping. Soil physico-chemical properties like pH, OC, moisture, available
nitrogen, available phosphorus and available potassium were higher in poplar mulch along
with inorganic manures. The integration of strawberry under agroforestry will provide multiproducts
to the farmers which will increase the socio-economic status of the farmers.
