Abstract
The present study aims to examine an economic analysis of seed production of paddy and chickpea in Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh. The specific objectives of the study are: To work out the procedure and method of seed certification of paddy and chickpea, to work out the changes in area, production and productivity of seed production of paddy and chickpea, to analysis cost and returns of seed production of paddy and chickpea and to identify the Major constraints of seed production of paddy and chickpea. The study has been conducted in Mungeli, Lormi and Patharia block in Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh state. A sample of 74 farmers were selected for the study. Average holding size household was 2.8 hectare with 125.97 per cent cropping intensity. In Chhattisgarh Area, Production and Productivity of chickpea seed production was decrease. On an average cost of cultivation of paddy and chickpea were calculated Rs.45232.88/ha. and Rs.35016.38/ha. respectively. The major operational cost on paddy was observed as Rs. 8280.00/ha on manure and fertilizer while major operational cost of chickpea was observed as Rs. 7500.00/ha on seed. Cost of production per quintal of paddy and chickpea to be found Rs.786.50 and Rs. 3668.85 respectively. Input-output ratio of paddy and chickpea came to 1:2.59 and 1:2.67, respectively on the sample farms. Delay in payment, shortage of labour and lack of training and guidance were major constraints reported by farmers. Study suggested that there is an urgent need to enhance seed production of improved cultivars to ensure adequate availability of quality seed to the farmers at local level and at affordable price.
