The low productivity of groundnut crop in India is mainly due to two major foliar diseases viz., late leaf spot and rust causing yield loss upto 50-70 per cent. Hence in the present investigation 188 mini-core collections and 37 advanced breeding lines and cultivars were evaluated for late leaf spot, rust, yield and its attributing traits and quality traits in a Simple Lattice Design (15 × 15) in two replications during Kharif 2011 at UAS, Bengaluru to isolate superior promising resistant genotypes. All the traits exhibited higher PCV, GCV, heritability and genetic advance as per cent of mean except for days to 50 per cent flowering, shelling percentage and oil content. Pod yield per plant exhibited significant positive association with plant height, primary branches per plant, pods per plant, kernel yield per plant, test weight and significant negative association with shelling percentage, oil content, rust and late leaf spot diseases. Kernel yield per plant exhibited high direct effect with high correlation value on pod yield per plant, while other traits recorded high indirect effect on pod yield per plant through kernel yield per plant. The genetic diversity was estimated by Euclidian distance method which grouped 225 genotypes into ten different clusters. Cluster VII recorded highest cluster mean values for most of the yield contributing traits. Out of 225 genotypes 8 and 26 genotypes were highly resistant to late leaf spot and rust diseases respectively. The genotypes ICG 1973, ICG 2381, ICG 15287, ICGV 93021, ICG 11862, GKVK-1 and ICG 6646 were having high protein and moderate oil content which can be used for confectionary purpose. The genotypes GBFDS 272, ICGV 87165 and ICGV 99003 were found to be high yielding and resistant to both diseases. The markers IPAHM 103, GM 2301 and marker GM 1009 were linked to rust resistance and late leaf spot resistance respectively. These markers could be utilised efficiently in resistant breeding programme for identifying resistant genotypes in groundnut.en_US
