Abstract
A survey was conducted to determine the seroprevalence of brucellosis, infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) and helminths infestation in Bikaner and Jaisalmer Prevalence of trypanosomosis and mange infestation was determined in Jaisalmer only. A total of 200 camels were screened. An overall seroprevalence of brucellois was found to be 3, 2.5 and 1 per cent by using A-B ELISA, RBPT and STAT respectively. No serum sample was found to be positive for infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) in camels using A-B ELISA. Screening of 200 faecal samples revealed overall prevalence of 28.5 per cent of helminths infestation. The eggs of strongyle spp., Trichuris spp. and Strongyloide spp. were observed. Overall range of eggs per gram of faeces was 200-1800. In Jaisalmer, overall 4 per cent of prevalence was observed for trypanosomosis by blood smear examination and 22 per cent of camels showed mange infestation using skin scraping examination.
