Effect of nitrogen and sulphur levels on growth, yield and economics of linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) under guava (Psidium guajava L.) based agri-horti system

dc.description.abstractA field experiment was conducted during Rabi season of 2020-21 at Agricultural Research Farm, Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, Barkachha, Mirzapur, Banaras Hindu University to determine the effect of nitrogen and sulphur levels on growth, yield and economics of linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) under guava (Psidium guajava L.) based agri-horti system. The soil of the experimental field was sandy clay loam in texture with slight acidic in reaction. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with three replications. The experiment consisted of nine treatment combinations comprising of three levels of nitrogen (0, 60 and 80 kg N ha-1) and three levels of sulphur (0, 20 and 40 kg S ha-1). A promising variety of linseed cv. ‘Padmini’ was sown, using a seed rate of 30 kg ha-1 at 30 cm row spacing. A basal application of phosphorous and potassium along with sulphur were applied at the time of sowing. However, nitrogen was applied in two splits, first was given at the time of sowing and second after 20 days of sowing. The result revealed that application of 80 kg N ha-1 and 40 kg S ha-1 recorded highest value for all the growth and yield attributing characters which were significantly superior over their lower levels. However, the interaction among the different levels of nitrogen and sulphur was found to be non- significant.en_US
