Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Genetic variability studies on forage bajra (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.)” was conducted at Genetics and Plant Breeding Research Farm of Narendra Deva University of Agriculture & Technology, Kumarganj, Faizabad (U.P.) in saline sodic soil under irrigated condition during Kharif 2010-11. The experimental material constituted 36 genotypes including three check viz., NDFB-2, Raj Bajra Chari and Giant Bajra. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design with three replications. Each entry was sown in two rows per plot of 3 x 2 m2 with row spacing of 10 cm. The observation were recorded on eleven quantitative characters namely days to 50% flowering, no. of tillers/plant, leaf length (cm), leaf width (cm), leaf-stem ratio, grain yield/plant (g), dry matter yield/plant (g), plant height (cm), panicle length (cm), 1000-grain weight (g), green fodder yield/plant (g) the and incidence of major insect-pest were recorded on plot basis. The data recorded on these characters was utilized for estimation of mean, range, variance, correlations, path coefficients and genetic divergence.
