A study was conducted on twenty indigenous goat kids allocated into five different groups. All animals were offered ad libitum rice straw and berseem hay (40:60). Group I was fed concentrate mixture (100g/d). Group II, III, IV and V were supplemented with urea molasses mineral block (UMMB), medicated urea molasses mineral block (Med-UMMB containing fenbendazole@0.5g/kg), tannin (5% of DM) and UMMB plus tannin (5% of DM), respectively. The animals were given trickle infection (200L3/d) of gastrointestinal nematodes (Haemonchus sp. and Cooperia sp. in the dose ratio of 9:1) for 10 consecutive days. The experiment lasted for 90 days. There was no significant difference in dry matter intake, gain in body weight and feed conversion efficiency. EPG differed significantly (P<0.05) in different treatments during 45th day, 60th day, 75th day and 90th day. Four weeks after (30th day) the administration of Haemonchus sp. and Cooperia sp. larvae (L3) the mean EPG values were 250, 200, 150, 200 and 250 for T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5 groups, respectively. From 45th day till the end of the experiment the mean EPG values for T3, T4 and T5 groups were 0. However on 45th, 60th, 75th and 90th day the mean EPG value for T1 and T2 were 400, 450, 600, 850 and 50, 100, 100, 150 respectively. Haemoglobin concentration differed significantly (P<0.05) with respect to dietary treatments on 45th and 60th day post infection and significantly higher haemoglobin was observed in T2, T3, T4 and T5 group in comparison to control (T1). PCV decreased as the levels of infection and incubation period increased. However, after administration of anthelmentic (Med-UMMB and Tannin) PCV value increased in T3, T4 and T5 in comparison to control from 45th day of experiment. Highest PCV value was recorded in T3 (39.5 %) where as lowest value was observed in T1 (12.0 %). Highest TEC value was observed in T4 (19.52 x 106/mm3), where as lowest value was observed in T1 (6.68 x 106/mm3). There was a fall in serum protein, serum albumin and albumin globulin ratio with increase in serum globulin level after administration of infection in kids. The BUN was found to be higher groups T2 and T3. Triglyceride level was lowest in T1 on 90th day. The kids of control group had lower serum calcium and phosphorus level. There was a significant increase in total nitrogen, TCA precepitable nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, microbial protein and total bacterial count in the supplemented groups (T2, T3, T4 and T5) in comparison to control (T1) in the strained rumen liquor at 45 d of experiment. Significant increase in the population of Entodinium sp. in T2 and T3 and significant increase in the population of Holotricha sp. in T1 and T5 was observed in the strained rumen liquor at 45 d of experiment. There was significant increase in the myofibrillar protein and sarcoplasmic protein in T4 and T5 group respectively. The humoral immune response against CRBC was highest in T4 group. There were no significant pathological changes observed in the histological slides of liver, kidney and duodenum of the goat kids sacrificed on 90th day of the experiment.en_US
