Abstract
The present study entitled “Studies on diseases of bottle gourd, [Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) standl] and its management strategies”. was conducted at Horticultural Research Farm, College of Agriculture, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya Raipur (C.G.) during December 2017 to April 2018. Five diseases viz. downy mildew, leaf curl, leaf blight, mosaic and powdery mildew appeared during the course of investigation. Leaf curl and mosaic observed earlier than the downy mildew and leaf blight. Disease severity and incidence reached at maximum in April. Seed treatment with carbendazim 12% + mancozeb 63% (3 g/kg seed) significantly stimulated germination percentage, root length, shoot length, fresh weight, dry weight and vigour index of bottle gourd. Among the thirteen varieties of bottle gourd three (Amrit, Ankit and Anmol) and two (Manya and Ns-433) were immune and resistant to downy mildew respectively. However, five (Angad, Ankit, Anmol, Chutki and Naveen) varieties showed Immune response against leaf curl. Five varieties (Amrit, Ankit, Latto, Manya and NS-443) were highly resistant and other five viz. Angad, Anmol, Divya, Naveen and Sarita were resistant against mosaic. Out of thirteen varieties of bottle gourd six varieties (Chutki, Amrit Angad, Ankit, Mahima and NS-433) were moderately resistant against powdery mildew.Three management practices viz. T5 [Seed treatment with (carbendazim 12%+ mancozeb 63% @ 3g/kg) + drenching at first true leaf stage with (captan 70% + hexaconazole 5%WP @ 0.1%) + Spray of (tebuconazole 50% + trifloxistrobin 25% WG @ 1g/l) + (imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 7.5 ml/15L + neem oil 0.2%) + Fosetyl-Al @ 0.1% + (tebuconazole 50% + trifloxistrobin 25% WG @ 1g/l) + (imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 7.5 ml/15L + neem oil 0.2% ) + Fosetyl-Al @ 0.1 %.], T3[seed treatment with seed pro @ 25g/kg + drenching at first true leaf stage with seed pro @ 5% + spray of (captan 70% + hexaconazole 5% WP @ 0.1%) + (imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 7.5 ml/15L + neem oil 0.2%) + Fosetyl-Al @ 0.1% + (captan 70% + hexaconazole 5% WP @ 0.1%) + (imidacloprid 17.8 SL @7.5 ml/15L + neem oil 0.2%) + Fosetyl-Al @ 0.1%]and T2 [seed treatment with carbendazim 12% + mancozeb 63% (@ 3g/kg) + drenching at first true leaf stage with (captan 70% + hexaconazole 5% WP @ 0.1%) + 6 alternate spray of seed pro (1%) and neem oil (0.2%)] significantly reduced the incidence and severity of diseases with better flowering, fruiting, fruit size, yield attributes, yield and cost benefit ratio.
