NITROGEN AND WEED MANAGEMENT EFFECTS ON PRODUCTIVITY OF SOYBEAN (Glycine max L.) IN KANDAHAR, AFGHANISTAN

dc.description.abstractA field experiment was planned and conducted during March to August 2019 at ANASTU (Afghanistan National Agricultural Science and Technology University), Kandahar, Afghanistan to study the “Nitrogen and Weed Management Effects on Productivity of Soybean in Kandahar, Afghanistan”. The experiment consisted of a total of twelve treatments, laid out in split plot design with three replications. In the main plots, three different weed managements (W1: Un-weeded check, W2: Pendimethalin 1 kg/ha at 1-2 DAS followed by 1 hand weeding at 25 DAS, W3: Pendimethalin 1 kg/ha at 1-2 DAS followed by Imazethapyr 100 g/ha at 25 DAS), in subplot, four different levels of N, i.e. absolute control (Control plot: 0 kg N/ha (Full P and K:60: 40), 40 kg N/ha: 2 split (basal + at flowering) (Full P and K:60-40), 60 kg N/ha: 2 split (basal+ at flowering) (Full P and K:60:40), 80 kg/ha: 2 split (basal+ at flowering) (Full P and K:60-40). Observations on various growth parameters, yield attributes and yield were recorded. Studies on weed count, weed dry matter accumulation, weed control efficiency and weed index were made and finally the economics of different treatments were worked out. Weed management significantly influenced all the growth parameter, yield attributes and yield of soybean. The plant height, leaf area index, dry matter accumulation per plant, root dry weight, nodes per plant, internode distance, grain yield, stover yield, biological yield and harvest index were recorded to have significantly higher values with the application of pendimethalin fb imazethapyr followed by pendimethalin fb hand weeding and un-weeded check. Nitrogen management significantly influenced all the growth parameter, yield attributes and yield of soybean. Plant height, leaf area index, dry matter accumulation per plant, root dry weight, nodes per plant, internode distance, grain yield, stover yield, biological yield and harvest index were recorded to have significantly higher values with the application of 80 kg N/ha followed by 60 kg N/ha, 40 kg N/ha and control (0 kg N/ha). The maximum gross return, net return and BC: R was obtained in application of pendimethalin fb imazethapyr followed by pendimethalin fb hand weeding and un-weeded check. In sub plot also application of 80 kg N/ha followed by 60 kg N/ha, 40 kg N/ha and control (0 kg N/ha).en_US
