dc.description.abstractThe present research entitled “Assessment of women self help groups with reference to socio-economic and technological performance in Surguja district (C.G.)” was carried out during the year 2015-16 in the Surguja district of the Chhattisgarh state. The Chhattisgarh state consists of 27 districts, out of which Surguja district was selected purposively. There are 7 blocks in Surguja district. Out of these blocks, one block namely Ambikapur was selected purposively for this study, because maximum number of different community organization of women SHGs are existing in the selected block. Total 15 SHGs were selected by using simple random sampling procedure. From each selected SHGs, 10 women members were selected. Thus, total 150 respondents (10×15=150) were considered for this study. This data was collected personally through pre-tested interview schedule and analyzed by using appropriate statistical methods. The findings of this study revealed that the majority of the respondents were found in young age group (up to 35 year), were literate (38%), and had no membership in any organization (56%). Meeting schedule took place once in a each month, with moderate records and account maintenance (47.34%). Majority of the respondents (82.67%) participated in meeting attended of the SHGs. Majority of the respondents had reported marginal land holding (up to 1 ha), maximum respondents involved in agriculture and agribusiness work as their family occupation. Majority of them had low annual income (Rs. 25001 to 75000). This study also indicates that majority of members of women SHGs were in the medium use of information and the maximum respondents (84.67%) had found necessary information from RAEO. Most of the respondents had low level of mass media exposure and maximum respondents (70.67%) had found required information from television. Maximum number of the respondents had medium level of decision making. Majority of the members of women SHGs had medium level of risk orientation, economic motivation and interpersonal group trust. Among total respondents, almost half respondents (53.33%) acquire training. Majority of the respondents had medium level of category of social and economical empowerment. Maximum number of the respondents had medium level of overall empowerment. Majority of the respondents were sale of Paddy to Co-operative society (94.00%), and all 15 groups were sale Mushroom and 12 groups vermi compost as wholesale. The overall performance of the SHG members was reported as a moderate level of performance in their social, economical and technological performance. In correlation analysis, these finding revealed that out of 18 independent variable, only 7 variable i.e. social participation, source of information, mass media exposure, training exposure, marketing pattern, decision making and empowerment level were found to be positive and significant correlated with performance of members of women SHGs at 0.01 and 0.05 level of probability. Remaining 11 variables were not indicated significant relationship with the performance of members of women SHGs. In case of multiple regression analysis out of 18 variables, only 5 variables i.e. social participation, source of information, mass media exposure, training exposure and marketing pattern had positive and significant contribution in the performance of members of women SHGs, remaining 13 variables did not indicate any significant contribution in performance of members of women of SHGs. However, all the 18 variables fitted in the model show 50.10 per cent contribution in the performance of members of women SHGs. As far as constraints faced by the members of SHGs in technological performance were concerned, the major constraints included lack of education, less amount of subsidy, less organization of training programme well in time, less of contact with the extension personnel, lack of leadership quality in SHGs members etc. Some of the major suggestion given by the members for increasing the technological performance in various activities i.e. to increase number of training programmes and it should be organized well in time, subsidy amount should be increased by the Govt. and proper guidance should be provide by the extension personnel to the women SHGs etc.en_US
