Abstract
A field experiment entitled “Effect of biodigested liquid organic manures and indigenous organic preparations on growth, productivity and quality of table purpose groundnut varieties in dry zones of Karnataka” was laid out in factorial randomized complete block design conducted at the GKVK farm of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka during summer and kharif 2013. Among the manurial treatments application of EBDLM @ 25 kg N equivalent ha-1 + 3 sprays of PG at 3 % produced significantly higher total dry matter production, leaf area index, number of pods, pod weight per plant, 100 kernel weight and shelling percentage, higher pod and haulm yield of groundnut (2023 & 3090 kg ha-1, respectively) than other treatments. Among the large seeded groundnut varieties, K-6 recorded significantly higher pod and haulm yield (1954 & 2941 kg ha-1, respectively) than JL 24 (1680 & 2618 kg ha-1, respectively) and TDG 39 (1804 & 2697 kg ha-1, respectively). Higher gross return (Rs. 1,06,717 ha-1), net return (Rs. 66,893 ha-1) and B: C ratio (2.7) was recorded in EBDLM @ 25 kg N equivalent ha-1 + 3 sprays of PG at 3 % with K-6 variety. The application of BDLM and EBDLM @ 25 kg N equivalent ha-1 + 3 sprays of panchagavya / vermiwash at 3 % was significantly enhanced the oil and protein content (%) of kernels over control. Pot culture experiment results indicated that, application of Calotropis BDLM + Pongamia BDLM each @ 31.25 kg N equivalent ha-1 recorded significantly higher seed and stalk yield of sunflower as compared to other treatments. The laboratory studies clearly indicated that there were significant improvement in the seed germination, length of seedling and seedling vigour index with panchagavya @ 3% treated seeds as compared to other treatments.
