dc.description.abstract | Livestock markets of Tamil Nadu (commonly called as Livestock shandy) are the traditional places, epitomes of animal farming heritage and the major places for livestock marketing. Though, it seems to be so traditional and not scientific, it is regular, systematic to some extent and serves the livestock farming community in their business perspective. Even in the era of globalization, the nature and function of livestock markets in Tamil Nadu has not been modernized due to the inherent nature of livestock trading and lack of attention of stakeholders for improving the same. Compulsion for the presence of animals for marketing, individualistic selection methods, problems in transportation, infrastructure requirements, disease problems in larger volume of animal inflow etc., are the factors that make the livestock marketing more complex than agricultural marketing. Basic information about the livestock markets of Tamil N adu is not available even in organized secondary data sources like livestock census, state's animal husbandry statistical reports etc., | en_US |
