Abstract
ABSTRACT The present study entitled “Evaluation of different nitrogenous fertilizers on soil properties, yield and quality of apricot (Prunus armenica L.)” was conducted at research farm of the Department of Soil Science and Water Management, Nauni Solan during 2015 and 2016 with 11 treatments comprising of T1- urea 0% + Ca(NO3)2 100%, T2- urea 20% + Ca(NO3)2 80%, T3- urea 40% + Ca(NO3)2 60%, T4- urea 60% + Ca(NO3)2 40%, T5- urea 80% + Ca(NO3)2 20%, T6- urea 100% + Ca(NO3)2 0%, T7- urea 100% + Lime (708 g/tree), T8- urea enriched compost 25% + Ca(NO3)2 75%, T9- urea enriched compost 50% + Ca(NO3)2 50%, T10- urea enriched compost 75% + Ca(NO3)2 25% and T11- urea enriched compost 100% + Ca(NO3)2 0% with three replications in randomised block design. From the foregoing results it may be concluded that treatment T7 (urea 100%+ lime 708 g/tree) was found to be best treatment for optimum growth, fruit set and yield. Whereas, fruit quality in terms of fruit length, fruit breadth and fruit weight improved under T1 treatment (urea 0%+ Ca(NO3)2 100%). Maximum leaf N, S and Zn was recorded under T7 treatment (urea 100%+ lime 708g/tree) whereas highest leaf Mg, Mn, Cu and Fe was recorded under T6 treatment (urea 100%+ Ca(NO3)20%). Soil pH decreased in the treatment where acid forming fertilizers viz., urea was used as source of nitrogen as compared to other nitrogen sources. Organic carbon content was highest under T11 treatment (urea enriched compost100%+ Ca(NO3)2 0%). Available N and P increased under T7 treatment (urea100%+ lime708g/tree) and available K and Ca under T1 treatment (urea 0%+ Ca(NO3)2 100%) and available S was improved under T9 treatment ( urea enriched compost 50%+ Ca(NO3)2 50%). Available Mg, Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn were significantly highest under treatment T6 (urea100%+ Ca(NO3)2 0%). From the present investigation, it may be concluded that urea and lime application in treatment T7 (urea100%+ lime708g/tree) helped in obtaining optimum growth, fruit set and yield during both the years of experimentation. Further it improved available nutrients in soil and also leaf nutrient content.
