The focus of the study was on the economic evaluation of croppin: pattern m different reaches of the canal system. The multistage randon sampling technique was employed to get the field level data for th, agriculture year 2003-04 through surveying 90 farmers. Comprising equa number in each reach (head, middle and tail). The techniques of tabula analysis and functional analysis were employed for analysis of the data The overall average land holding was 19.53 hectares. Cropping pattern o different reaches of the canal system was identified and compared wit! the recommended one. It was noticed that water intensive crops wen grown in the upper reach of the canal system. In the head reach the nel returns were higher in cultivation of groundnut (Rs. 12677.04), in the middle reach it was cotton (Rs.21329.09) and in the tail reach it was pigeonpea (Rs.7199.95) where as in overall cultivation of cotton in rabi and groundnut in summer was found to be more profitable with the nel returns of Rs.21926.40 and Rs.11750.71 respectively. The higher profitable cropping system in the study area was cotton-fallow (Rs.21926.40) fallowed by Bajra-groundnut (Rs. 17300.62), Greengramgroundnut (Rs.l477.2S), paddy-paddy (Rs.13277.34). The results for technical efficiency showed that their exists a scope to expand production if farmers could efficiently utilized their available resources with the given technology. The major problems faced .by the farmers were, inadequate water availability to the farmers at the tkil reach, water logging and salinity problem in upper reaches and wastage of water at the tail reaches of the canal system were the major problems faced by the farmers in the Study area.en_US
