dc.description.abstractA study on “Farm mechanization expectations of cotton growers” conducted in Haveri and Dharwad districts of Karnataka during 2011-12 with a sample of 160 cotton growers. The data was collected by personal interview method using structured schedule to assess the socio-economic profile, knowledge level and extent of utilization of farm implements and machinery, mechanization expectations and constraints in use of farm implements and machinery by cotton growers. The data was analysed by using appropriate statistical tools frequency, percentage and correlation. More than fifty per cent of the cotton growers (51.87%) belonged to middle age category, studied upto high school (29.37%). About 33.75 per cent of cotton growers belonged to medium land holding category, high annual income category (40.00%), majority (88.75%) of the cotton growers belonged to high cropping intensity category and almost half of them (48.13%) belonged to low extension contact and low mass media exposure category (46.25%). Majority of the cotton growers (67.50%) belonged to medium innovative proneness category, high risk orientation category (42.50%) and medium economic motivation category (76.25%). About 38.75 per cent of cotton growers belonged to ‘high knowledge’ category. And 26.25 per cent belonged to ‘high extent of utilization’ category. Cotton growers expressed their expectations about dibbler equipment as ‘low cost’ (12.50%), ‘improved design’ (15.00%) and ‘more efficient equipment’ (18.75%). With regards to cotton picker cent per cent of the respondents not satisfied and expressed their expectations as ‘low cost’ (31.25%), ‘improved design’ (55.00%), ‘more efficient’ (52.50%) and ‘ease of use’ (28.12%) and cent per cent of the farmers expressed ‘high initial and maintenance cost’, ‘high fuel cost’ as constraints.en_US
