dc.description.abstract"The study was conducted in Bangalore rural district of south Karnataka and Belgaum district of North Karnataka during the year 2004-05. The districts were selected keeping area and production of rose as criterion. In Bangalore rural district, Devanahalli and Hoskote taluks, similarly in Belgaum district, Belgaum and Gokak taluks were purposively selected. From each taluk of Bangalore rural district and Belgaum district, 40 and 20 rose growers were selected using the same criteria constituting a total sample of 120. More than 43 per cent of the rose growers had high knowledge level about recommended cultivation practices. About 49.17 per cent of the respondents had fallen under high adoption category and 34.17 per cent of the respondents were under medium adoption category. Majority of the respondents belonged to middle age group, had low farming experience and semi-medium land holding. More than 28 per cent of the respondents studied upto high school. Majority of the respondents had medium extension contact (60.00%), medium extension participation (59.17%), medium mass media participation (55.00%), medium risk orientation (69.17%), medium economic motivation (61.67%) and medium innovativeness (61.67%). Cent per cent of the respondents had knowledge and adopted number of pruning and stage of harvesting. More than 99 -per cent of the farmers cultivated recommended variety and harvested in right time. More than half of the respondents (55.83%) obtained recommended yield. Majority of respondents expressed the production problems like problem of pests (87.50%), diseases (85.83%) and high investment (69.17%). Further, majority of the respondents expressed the marketing problems like exploitation by the middle man (78.83%), fluctuation in price (75.00%) and low price for flowers (70.83%)."en_US
