Abstract
A survey was conducted at Kancheepuram district among 15 native chicken poultry farmers to study the rearing pattern and production performance at field level. Most of the farmers are rearing Assel and Kadaknath as pure breeds; Vanaraja, Gramapriya, Kairali as improved varieties tor egg and meat purpose. The day old chicks were purchased from FTC, kancheepuram and got trained on farming activities. The flock size was ranging from 25 to 500 with an average of (160.67:27.83) birds. About 50% of farmers rearing under extensive system and remaining 50% rearing under intensive system for egg production. Borewell is the main source of drinking water provided to the birds. Nearly 70% of the farmers utilizing the plastic waterers for watering the birds and remaining 30% are using nipple drinkers. All the farmers are regularly vaccinating their birds against Ranikhet disease.
