Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the primary source of energy for billions of people in developing countries, yet the commonly consumed polished grain contains insufficient levels of the key micronutrients zinc and iron which afflict billions of people throughout that world.Hence there is a need for development of new varieties with high grain yield potential ofhigh grain, zinc and iron status. This study is aimed to discern the correlation between yield and micronutrient content of rice. For present investigation thirty different genotypes and transgressive segregants of F5 population of ARB6XAM143, were grown during Kharif-2016 in the field of Department of Plant Biotechnology, UAS (B). Grain length, Grain yield per plant, plant height, biomass, and harvest index had significant positive correlation with total number of grains per plant. These traits assist the indirect selection of plants bearing high grain number per plant but grain length to width ratio manifested significant positive correlation with grain zinc content. Similarly, grain iron showed significant positive correlation with plant height. Molecular marker analysis was established using candidate gene specific markers but there was no association found with any of the markers used to the traits studied. Hence there is a need for further analysis using advanced sequencing techniques. Thus these traits can be used for selection in biofortification breeding programmes of rice.en_US
