The present study was undertaken in Southern Dry Zone of Karnataka to estimate the magnitude of yield gaps, to determine sources contributing to the yield gap- II, to study the resource use efficiency and to identify the constraints responsible for yield gap-II and to suggest the measures to minimize the yield gaps in Ragi and Sugarcane. The analytical tools used in the study were IRRI method of yield gap analysis, production function analysis, decomposition path- coefficient analysis and Garett ranking technique. The results were as follows: Yield gap –I (4.01q/ac) was greater than yield gap-II (3.64q/ac) in Ragi and yield gap-II (14.94 t/ac) was greater than yield gap-I (2.71 t/ac) in Sugarcane. Both Ragi and Sugarcane growing farmers were not efficient in resource allocation and resources were either overused or underused. The input use gap was contributing majorly to the total yield gap-II in both Ragi and Sugarcane. The unfavourable climatic conditions and non-availability of labour during peak season were the major constraints faced by Ragi and Sugarcane growing farmers. The good extension strategies in transferring the technologies, mechanization and by reducing the non-transferable component of technologies would help bridging the existing yield gap in Ragi and Sugarcane.en_US
