Abstract
Thestudyhadafocus onthe entrepreneurial behaviourofself—helpgroupwomenofSGSYinNelloredistrictofAndhraPradesh. Ex-post-facto research design was followed in the study. NelloredistrictinAndhraPradeshwaspurposivelyselectedforthestudy.Outof46 mandals in Nellore district, three mandals viz., Venkatachalam, ThotapalligudurandNelloreruralwereselectedrandomly.Twovillagesfrom each mandal accounting to six in total viz., Sarvepally, Chemudugunta, Amalaru South, Varigonda, Kanaparthipadu and Chintareddipalem were selectedrandomly.Onehundredandtwentyrespondentswereselectedfrom thesixvillagesbyemployingproportionaterandomsamplingmethod.The datawascollectedbypersonalinterviewmethodthroughstructuredintervrew schedule.Appropriatestatisticalprocedureswereemployedtoanalyseand interpretthedata. The study revealed that majority ofthe selfhelp group women ofSGSY were middle aged, functionally literate with medium income level, social participation, mass media consumption, trainingreceived, extenswn contact,managementorientation,valueorientation,creditorientationandlow marketingfacilities. MajorityoftheselfhelpgroupwomenofSGSYhadmediumlevel.of entrepreneurialbehaviour. The study also revealed that majority of respondents had ranked innovativeness,decisionmakingability,achievementmotivationas 15‘,2ndand 3rd important components respectively followed by risk taking ability, managerial assistance, ability to coordinate the entrepreneurial activities, knowledgeoftheselectedenterprise,informationseeking, cosmopoliteness and leadership ability as 4th, 5“, 6m, 7m, 8‘“, 9th and 10th important components of entrepreneurial behaviour respectively. Hence, the above componentsshouldbetakencareofbythepolicymakers,administratorsand extension workers while formulating any training prograrmnes for the developmentofentrepreneurshipamongselfhelpwomenofSGSY. Correlation analysis revealed that the independent variables oftherespondents namely education, income, social participation, mass media consumption, training received, extension contact, marketing facilities, managementorientation,valueorientationandcreditorientationhadapositive and significant relationship while age had a negative and significant relationshipwiththeentrepreneurialbehaviourofselfhelpgroupwomenof SGSY.Hence,theabovevariablesshouldbegivendueconsiderationwhile formulating and implementing programmes for the development of entrepreneurialbehaviourofselfhelpgroupwomenofSGSY. Regression analysis revealed that all the selected 11 independentvariablesputtogetherexplainedabout63percentvariationinentrepreneurial behaviour of self help group women of SGSY, Age, Mass media consumption, value orientation and credit orientation had positively and significantlycontributedformostofthevariationinentrepreneurialbehaviour ofselfhelpgroupwomenofSGSY. Inadequacyanduntimelysupplyofloans,highcostofinputs,lackofpropermarketingfacilities,lackofsuf ficienttransportfacilitiesforreachingthemarket,shandyareas,lessdemandandpricemarginfortheproducts,lackofknowledgeandskillrequiredforrunningtheenterprise,non-cooperation among the members ofthe group and lack offollow-up action by the implementing officials were the problems expressed by selfhelp group womenofSGSYforbetterentrepreneurship. Sufficientamountofloantobe'providedintime,provisionofinputsat reasonable rates, provision ofseparate markets to sell their products, provisionofadequatetransportfacilitiestotheirvillages, creationofdemand fortheproducts, givingmoretrainingtoupdatetheirknowledge.andskill relatedtotheirenterprise,motivatingthegroupmemberstoworkunitedlyand follow—up action to be taken Up by the implementing offimals were the suggestionsgivenbyself-helpgroupwomentoovercometheproblemsfor betterentrepreneurship.
