Animals suspected for canine distemper were tested by Agar gel precipitation test (AGPT) and Indirect Fluorescent anitibody technique (IFAT). For AGPT, conjunctival (CS) and nasal (NS) swab suspensions were used and tested against distemper antisera prepared in rabbits using Snyder Hill strain of canine distemper virus. A total of 504 samples were tested and 373 samples showed positive reactions with the production of single and / or double precipitation lines. Conjunctival smears from such positive cases were studied by IFAT and all the AGPT positive cases were found to be positive by IFAT. Few of the positive CS and NS materials were subjected to immuno-electrophoretic analysis. Out of sixty seven apparently healthy animals tested for CD, 25 showed positive reactions indicating 37.3% of subclinical infection in the tested population.en_US
