Histology and Histochemistry of the Preen Gland in Guinea Fowl (Numida mealagris)

Abstract
Uropygial or preen gland of bird is homologus to the mammalian sebaceous gland and is said to protect the feathers by its secretion. This prominent integumentary gland is located at the base of tail and acts as a source of Vitamin D.
