Abstract
The research experiment was conducted in the Hi – tech Floriculture and Vegetable Project, College of Agriculture, Pune-5 during the winter season at 2006-07entided as "Effect of fertilizer levels on canopy temperature and light use efficiency by gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii L.) under polyhouse in winter season". Experiment was laid in a randomized block design with six treatments and four replications. The treatments under study were Ti (Control) (No fertilizer), T2> (NPK @ 15:5:55 mg/pl/week), T3> (NPK @ 20:10:60 mg/pl/week), T4> (NPK @ 25:15:65 mg/pl/week), T5, (NPK @ 30:20:75 mg/pl/week), T6, (NPK @ 35:25:85 mg/ptfweek). The results indicated that various biometric observations like plant height (37.18 cm), plant spread (56.46 cm), number of suckers per plant (5.97), lowest days taken to initiate first flower bud (56.5 days), the minimum number of days (93.57) for 50 per cent flowering and the maximum flower diameter (11.55 cm) were found to be superior under highest level of fertilizer T6) (NPK @ 35:25:85 mg/pl/wk). Weekly average incident radiation ranged between 319.12 HmolmV1 and 1152 nmolmV1 were recorded under polyhouse and in open field condition. Weekly average reflected radiation ranged between 27.36 jimolm s" and 102.14 [xmolm s" were recorded under polyhouse and in open field condition. Weekly average transmitted radiation ranged between 124.6 jAmolmV1 and 168.07 nmolmV1 were recorded under polyhouse and in open field condition. Weekly average absorbed radiation ranged between (187.06 limolmV1) in T6 (NPK @ 35:25:85 mg/pl/wk) radiation under lyhouse. Absorbed radiation of 882.5 |xmolm2s"1 was recorded in open field condition. The value of absorptivity (%) viz., 67.15 maximum, 60.17 minimum, 63.79 average and 6.98 range were found at T6 level i.e. NPK @ 35:25:85 mg/pl/week under polyhouse. Relative humidity (RH) and temperature during the experimental period ranged between 98.0 % to 65.5 % and 97.0 % and 68 % under polyhouse and open field conditions at 7.30 am respectively. While humidity at 14.30 ranged between 38.3 % to 19.4 % and 21.2 % to 15.4 under polyhouse and open field condition respectively. Weekly temperature during experiment ranged between 28.2 and 14.3 C and 19.3 to 10.6 °C under polyhouse and open field conditions at 7.30 am respectively. Whereas at 14.30 temperatures were ranged between 40.3 and 30.2 °C and 38.2 to 28.4 °C under both the conditions respectively. Canopy temperature was recorded at weekly intervals. Canopy temperature (Tc) was consistently higher under T6, NPK @ 35:25:85 mg/pl/wk (T6) (38.2 °C) on 120 DAP through out the crop growth period. Whereas lower canopy temperature was observed in control (no fertilizer application) (Ti) (36.8 °C ) under same DAP. Further it was revealed from Table.26 mat canopy temperature (Tc) under polyhouse were always lower than the open field conditions (41 °C) during 120 DAP Canopy air-temperature differential was also recorded at weekly intervals. There is no significant difference in canopy air-temperature differential among all the levels. The highest negative value (-6.33 °C) T3. (NPK @ 20:10:60 mg/pl/wk). Where as lowest (-2.0 °C) observed at T6t NPK @ 35:25:85 mg/pl/wk. The highest green weight light use efficiency (5.93 g/MJ) and dry weight light use efficiency (1.63 g/MJ) was observed in T6.
