Abstract
Today India has the fastest growing dairy industry in the world. In fact as Verghese Kurien. Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NODS), correctly put it "Dairying in India has come of age". The base of Indian dairying is a small holder (small and marginal farmer and the landless with one or two milch animals raised on crop residues and by-products with under-employed family labour-mostly female workforce.
