dc.description.abstractThe present study was undertaken in Hisar district of Haryana state. The objective of the study was to see the impact of the parental encouragement and family climate on academic performance adolescents. Two senior secondary schools of Hisar city (Govt. and Private) and two senior secondary schools of Chaudhariwas village (Govt. and Private) were selected as per the demand of study. A sample of 100 rural and 100 urban respondents including equal number of males and females of 16-18 year age were taken, thus to make a total sample of 200 adolescents. The Family Climate Scale (FCS) developed by Beena Shah (2006) was used to assess family climate of adolescents. Parental Encouragement Scale developed by R. R. Sharma (1988) was used to assess the level of parental encouragement of adolescents. Academic achievement of adolescents was assessed from the latest grade sheet collected from the school. The results revealed in total sample half of adolescents from urban and rural area had average level of academic performance and received moderate level of parental encouragement. Maximum number of children belonged to moderate category of family climate. A positive and significant relationship with academic performance and parental encouragement of adolescents was noticed. All the aspects of family climate had significant relationship with parental encouragement of adolescents. There was significant association between paternal education, maternal education and academic performance of adolescents. Further significant relationship between academic performance with parental education and parental occupation of adolescents was found.en_US
