Several new reproductive techniques have been developed which are used as aids to augment the reproductive eficiency of a superior female to the maximum. Hormonal induction of multiple ovulations followed by non-surgical collection of embryos and their tralasfer to recipients is widely used. Assessment of superovulatory response in a donor cow by rectal palpation of ovaries is the conventional technique but diagnosis of ovarian structures by rectal palpation is not possible in about 20% of cases (Grunert and BerchtoPd 1982) and there are always chances for misintelpretatio~liC. ompared to manual palpation, ultrasonography permits a more precise estimation of the number as well as the size of the ovarian structures (Hanzen et al. 2000).en_US
