Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Impact of bagging on fruit maturity and quality attributes of guava (Psidium guajava L.) cv. L-49” which was carried out during 2022-23.The experiment was conducted at the Instructional Farm, Department of Fruit Science, College of Horticulture, Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design with 8 treatments and 3 replications. The healthy fruits about 60 days after fruit set were selected for bagging. The different bagging material were used such as newspaper bag, butter paper bag, transparent polythene bag, black polythene bag, yellow polythene bag, brown paper bag and non-woven bag, bags were tied with thread properly.Three plants under each treatment were selected for experiment, among the all treatments the minimum days recorded for fruit maturity is in treatment non-woven bag (T7) while all the physical parameters such as fruit length, diameter, volume flesh thickness and seed cavity size were found maximum in treatment non-woven bag (T7) whereas, all other treatments prove significantly better then control. Furthermore, effect of various bagging materials significantly influenced thebio-chemical attributes such as TSS, total sugars, reducing sugar, non-reducing sugar, ascorbic acid, and phenol content. Maximum total sugars, reducing sugar and non-reducing sugar were recorded in non-woven bag (T7), bagging with black polythene bag (T4) improved the ascorbic acid content of the fruit whereas bagging with yellow polythene bag (T5) gives high pectin and fiber content. Bagging significantly proven better then control in all the quality parameters of fruits. Whereas it is recommended that bagging of guava fruits with non-woven bag can provide maximum yield, with economic feasibility and good quality parameters.
