dc.description.abstract | On biochemical characterization of suspected Yersinia species isolated from milk and milk products, twenty (l9.42%) were identified as Yersinia sp. by the conventional biochemical methods which include 9 Yersinia enterocolitica, 6 Y. frederiksenii and S Y. kfisrensenii where as, 18 by the commercial kit method which include 7 Y. emerocolitica, 6 Y frederiksenii and 5 Y kriszensenii Among the 29 presumptive Yersinia isolates tested in PCR assay, only nine were identified as Y entrrocolirim, as they showed amplification for species specific 16S rRNA gene (330 bp). In multiplex PCR, the same 4 pathogenic isolates harboured one to four virulent genes either single or in combination. The number of l’. enteroco/itica isolates identified in all these three methods was almost same, Molecular method identified more number of isolates than that of commercial kit method which may be due to the accuracy of PCR method. The results found clearly show that the molecular and conventional biochemical methods are equally reliable for detection of contamination of milk with Yersinia sp. | en_US |
