Abstract
A study was conducted to identify the current status of urban leptospirosis in animal and human population covering different locations in Tamil Nadu by antigen detection method (Dark field microscopy and Polymerase Chain Reaction) and antibody detection (microscopic agglutination test and a developed in house i-ELISA). A total of 931 samples comprising of 118 Canine (serum- 108 and urine -10), 161 bovine (serum- 102, urine- 49, milk-3 and aborted contents-7), 156 equine (serum-152 and urine-4), 153 rodent (serum-60, urine-33 and kidney tissue-60), 177 swine serum and 166 human serum were collected from different locations in Tamil Nadu. All samples were collected from animals/human of unknown disease status.
