dc.description.abstract | The present study was designed with the objective of evaluating Polyaxial Locking Plate system (PAX) and the intra-operative intricacies involved during application of Polyaxial Locking Plating system for long bone fracture management in dogs. The study was conducted in Small Animal Orthopaedics Unit of Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital from March 2021 to December 2021. A study on incidence of long bone fractures, in 609 cases presented during the study period revealed that fractures were more common in radius and ulna followed by femur, tibia and fibula and humerus. Distal fractures occurred commonly in femur, radius and ulna and humerus whereas, proximal fractures were common in tibia and fibula. Transverse fractures occurred highest followed by oblique fractures in all long bones. Young puppies of 0-6 months age were more prone than adult dogs and males were affected more than females. Among different breeds incidence was highest in non-descript dogs followed by Labrador, Spitz, German Shepherd dogs and others. | |
