OCCURRENCE AND PATHOLOGY OF VARIOUS CONDITIONS OF UPPER GASTRO-INTESTINAL TRACT IN GOATS (Capra hircus)

| dc.description.abstract | Occurrence and pathology of various conditions of upper gastro- intestinal tract in goats were studied in 714 goats irrespective to breeds,sex and age groups. Out of those 214 samples were positive for pathological lesions. This investigation revealed that the overall occurrences of various pathological conditions were 29.97 per cent in Rajasthan state. Various types of pathological conditions were observed viz. chelitis (3.74 per cent), gingivitis (8.87 per cent), ulcerative stomatitis (4.67 per cent), ulcerative glossitis (3.27 per cent), sarcosporidiosis in tongue (10.28 per cent), ulcerative esophagitis (0.46 per cent), sarcosporidiosis in esophagus (7.94 per cent), gongylonemasis in esophagus (10.28 per cent), hyperkeratosis in esophagus (5.60 per cent), acute rumenitis (6.54 per cent), mycotic rumenitis (3.27 per cent), amphistomiosis in rumen (3.74 per cent), parakeratosis (1.40 per cent), acute reticulitis (3.27 per cent), chronic reticulitis (5.14 per cent), omasitis (4.20 per cent), abomasitis (4.20 per cent), haemonchosis in abomasum (14.95 per cent) and congestion in abomasum (1.87 per cent). Histopathological changes were revealed presence of marked cellular infiltration around the blood vessels and inflammed tissues. Clusters of infiltration of mononuclear and polymorphonuclear cells in mucosa and submucosa also reported. Vacuolar degeneration, hyperkeratosis and parakeratosis observed in esophagus and rumen mainly due to roughage feeding or nutritional deficiency. Hyperkeratosis revealed excess thickness of stratum cornium layer. Certain parasitic conditions also observed in tongue, esophagus, rumen and abomasum. In reticulum proliferation of connective tissue beneath the damage areas due to chronic persistent of irritant also reported. In abomasums damage of mucosa along with glandular atrophy and congestion reported due to parasitic infection. | en_US |
