dc.description.abstractThe presentstudyentitled "Economicanalysisofguavaorchards in AnantapurdistrictofAndhraPradesh"wasundertakenmainlytostudythecosts andreturnsandeconomicviabilityofguavaorchardsalongwiththemarketing aspects. Anantapur district which has largest area under guava in Rayalaseema region waspurposivelychoosenforthestudy. Two mandalswith highestarea under guava and two villagesinturnwithhighestareafromeach mandalwerepurposivelyselected. Alltheguavaorchardswereclassifiedinto 3 age groups. Viz., pre-bearing period, yield increasing period and yield stabilization period. Fromthe list ofguavaorchardists,60farmersrepresenting 20 from each agegroupwererandomlyselected. Tabular analyssanddiscountedprojectevaluationtechniqueswere used to studycosts, returns, marketing aspectsand economicviabilityofguava orchards. The total human labourconsumption per hectare ofguava orchard during it's economic life period of 30 years was 16,970.68 mandays. HarvestingwasthemajorcomponentWHChabsorbed 12,003.60 mandays (70.73percent) followedbyirrigatonwhichtookashareof3705.41 mandays (21,83percent). The total commercial cost of cultivation of guava orchard was Rs.14,39,106.00perhectare. Thegrossandnetincomesperhectarewere Rs.29,51,838.00andRs.15,12,732.00respectively. ThecalculatedNPV,B-Cratioatadiscountrateof24percentwere Rs.71,103.60and1.55respectively. lRRwasfoundtobe58.18percent. All these measures indicated the economic viability of investment in guava orchard. Themostprevalentmarketingchannelinguavamarketingwaschannel'llthroughwhich62.50percentofsamplefarmersdisposedtheguavafruits. Totalmarketingcostsweremoreinchannel-ll(Rs.174.80perquintal) over channel-l(Rs.91.88perquintal). Producer'sshareinconsumer'srupeewasmoreinchannel-l.(64.59per cent)thaninChannel-ll(62.36percent). Thoughchannel—lwasmoreefficient, the mostprevalentchannel in guavatradewaschannel—ll asthe producer receivedbetterpriceperunitofguavafruits.en_US
