The present investigation entitled, “Genetic variation and inter-relationship for seed yield and related traits in F5 generation of urdbean (Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper)” was undertaken to assess the nature of genetic variability, association of various traits with yield and their direct and indirect effects for effective selection. The experimental material comprising of 51 F5 genotypes were evaluated in randomized complete block design with three replications during kharif 2018. The analysis of variance revealed that sufficient genetic variability was present for all morphological, yield and yield contributing traits, quality attributes along with reaction to prevalent diseases. High PCV was recorded for seed yield per plant and biological yield per plant. Days to 50 per cent flowering, days to 75 per cent maturity, seeds per pod, harvest index, 100-seed weight and protein content exhibited high heritability. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed for harvest index which indicated the importance of additive gene action and possibility of selection in the early generations. Positive and significant correlation of seed yield per plant was recorded for plant height, pods per plant, biological yield per plant and harvest index. Path coefficient analysis revealed that biological yield per plant and harvest index can be the best selection parameters for evolving high yielding genotypes. Seven genotypes i.e. TU-17-4 X Palampur-93 (15-15-P-3-3-8), KU-553 X Him Mash-1 (15-10-P-2-10-1), KU-553 X Him Mash-1 (15-10-P-4-9-8), COBG-653 X Palampur-93 (15-01-P-6-1-8), IPU-02-33 X Palampur-93 (15-08-P-5-3-4), IPU-02-33 X Palampur-93 (15-08-P-1-5-11) and KU-553 X Palampur-93 (15-05-P-3-9-8)37 found resistant to Cercospora leaf spots and three genotypes namely DU-1 X Him Mash-1 (15-02-P-2-4-8), DU-1 X Him Mash-1 (15-02-P-3-10-10) and KUG-540 X Palampur-93 (15-14-P-1-4-9) were resistant to anthracnose leaf spots. DU-1 X Him Mash-1 (15-02-P-2-4-8), TU-17-4 X Palampur-93 (15-15-P-2-6-4), KU-553 X Him Mash-1 (15-10-P-2-10-1), IPU-02-33 X Palampur-93 (15-08-P-5-3-4), KU-553 X Palampur-93 (15-05-P-3-9-8) and KUG-540 X Palampur-93 (15-14-P-1-4-9) were the promising genotypes based on seed yield per plant and disease reaction.en_US
