Wheat is the largest grown cereal and one of the world’s leading cereal crops. Leaf rust fungi are highly specialized plant pathogen with narrow host range caused by PucciniatriticinaEriks. The pathotypes/races of wheatbrown rust evolve quickly to form new races, wreaked down resistance of varieties and create a big threat to wheat production. Hence, there is a need to screen/evaluate diverse wheat germplasm to have resistance along with good agronomic traits. Forty Indian Plant Pathological Screening Nursery(IPPSN) wheat (Triticum aestivumL.) genotypes were evaluated for leaf rust or brown rust resistance against its most prevalent races Tr77-5, Tr104-2 and Tr12-2 following Adult plant resistance (APR) during the cropping season 2015-16 and 2016-17. The test genotypes exhibited various types of rust reaction against the aforesaid races and it was found that the four genotypes 1511, 1516, 1520 and 1527 were resistance to all the test races. The test germplasm showed maximum resistance Tr12-2 followed by Tr77-5 and Tr104-2.The aforementioned resistance genotypes seem to be useful for their identification as a variety. If they have good agronomic traits or as a resistance donor source for developing resistant wheat variety against brown rust. Out of five hundred forty one NBPGR wheat germplasm, fifty five were found to show rust reaction types against the mixture of the said races of brown rust during the 2016-17.en_US
