Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Synthesis of metal nanoparticles and its utility as UV protectant for improving HaNPV formulation” was carried out at Biotechnology Centre, Department of Agricultural Botany, Post Graduate Institute, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola in academic year 2016-2017. The study was aimed at synthesizing metal nanoparticles to evaluate their UV absorption potential for improving HaNPV formulation. A total four metal nanoparticles were synthesized by using green synthesis approach. The metal nanoparticles like silver, zinc oxide, copper oxide and titanium oxide were used. Amongst the all four metal nanoparticles the particles with best UV absorption potential along with the M. oleifera leaf extract were utilized to improve the HaNPV formulation. The synthesized silver nanoparticle showed the peak at 412 nm with 34 nm particle size and -15 mV zeta potential and ZnO nanoparticles with 31 nm particle size and -19.3 mV zeta potential. Both having potential to absorb light in UV range. Helicoverpa armigera nuclear polyhedrosis virus (HaNPV) is important biological control of Helicoverpa armigera, a polyphagous pest. Despite of its advantages, the practical application has not been fully exploited due to rapid inactivation of virus by UV rays. Use of metallic nanoparticles via green synthesis is exploited in UV protection ability in improving HaNPV formulation, the main purposes of all the above mentioned methods is to search for the best UV protectant in formulation of HaNPV and ultimately increase its shelf life. The HaNPV formulation was observed to retain its original POB and mortality rate with 80 µl ZnO nanoparticle per ml of HaNPV formulation at 15 min UV exposure, with 88.08% of original mortality retain and 77.83% of original POB activity. This eco-friendly method could be a competitive alternative to increase shelf life of HaNPV biopesticide in fields to the other chemical pesticide formulations used conventionally. It is a successful attempt to green nanotechnology as a tool for biopesticide improvement before its application.

The four metal nanoparticles silver, zinc oxide, copper oxide and titanium oxide were synthesized using M. oleifera leaf extract. The synthesis was found to be an eco-friendly, rapid green approach and cost effective. The metal nanoparticles were confirmed by different approaches and the best UV protectant were utilized in formulation of HaNPV.
