Abstract
In modern times the problem of growing population and energy demand is the primary concern among the society. To solve this issue, we must opt available renewable option of energy so that extraction of energy does not involve pollution and other natural hazards. The solar energy fit in appropriately as clean and green energy. In this research work a new design, termed as Solar tree is implemented for utilizing solar energy more efficiently. In solar tree, solar panels are arranged in a spiral phyllotaxy manner. Phyllotaxy refers to the arrangement of leaves on the natural trees and spiral phyllotaxy is one of its types. Spiral phyllotaxy shows there should be only one leaf at each node along the branch of a tree. To design solar tree, we used 3/8 phyllotaxy pattern found in natural tree. In solar tree, panels are oriented in different directions hence utilizes solar energy throughout the day. To analyze its performance, it is compared with another solar tree based on 2/5 Phyllotaxy pattern and with conventional panel. In testing of all these models it is found that solar tree based on 3/8 Phyllotaxy pattern generates more power comparatively. Solar tree opens up new perspectives for urban lighting which satisfies today’s environmental, social, cultural and aesthetic demands. It can be used for street lightening system, industrial power supply etc. It is much better than conventional way of arranging solar panels in manner of utilizing an area as solar tree utilizes 1% of land area comparatively. So the design is validated to most suited for implement at large scale.
