dc.description.abstractThe present investigation entitled “Effect of delayed time of planting on growth and yield of different varieties of rice (Oryza sativa L.)” was conducted at the Agricultural Research Farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India during kharif season of 2018-2019. The experiment was conducted in split plot design with three dates of planting viz., D1 (06/08/2018), D2 (13/08/2018) and D3 (20/08/2018) as main factor, and four rice varieties viz., HUR-3022, DRR-44, HUR-4-3 and HUR-105 as sub main factor and the treatments in three replications. Plant growth attributes i.e. plant height (cm), number of leaves per m2, number of tillers per m2, dry matter accumulation (g), yield attributes such as panicle length (cm), panicle weight (g), test weight (g), grain yield (t ha-1), straw yield (t ha-1) and nutrient uptake by both straw and grain were determined. The obtained results shown that crop planted on 06/08/2018 recorded significant higher growth attributes, yield attributes, grain yield, straw yield over 13/08/2018 and 20/08/2018 but at par with others considering nutrient uptake. Among varieties, DRR-44 found significantly superior in growth attributes, yield attributes and yield over HUR-3022, HUR-4-3, HUR-105. There was no significant difference observed among the varieties as the characters like straw yield and nutrient uptake were concerned. As this experiment was conducted only for one season, therefore it needs further evaluation to select the superior cultivar under different planting dates.en_US
