A pot experiment on residual effect of urban solid waste compost on soil physicochemical properties and cowpea crop was carried out during kharif- 2016 at college of agriculture, UAS, GKVK, Bangalore. The research data indicated that there was no significant improvement of soil moisture, pH, EC and OC before and after the harvest of cowpea crop. However, Macro and secondary nutrients were higher in the treatment received 100 per cent NPK +segregated compost as compared to inorganics alone. Micronutrient and heavy metal status viz., Ni and Pb were significantly higher in T6 (100 per cent NPK +unsegregated compost) before and after cowpea but cadmium and chromium content was not detectable. Crude protein and crude fiber content were significantly improved in treatment T5 (100 per cent NPK + segregated compost)as compared to only inorganics. The growth and yield data of cowpea recorded significantly higher values in the treatment T5 (100 per cent NPK +segregated compost). The macro and secondary nutrient content and its uptake by cowpea grain and haulm were significantly higher in the treatment received 100 per cent NPK +segregated compost. However, micronutrient and heavy metal content and its uptake by cowpea grain and haulm were significantly higher values in the treatment T6(100 per cent NPK +unsegregated compost). Even though heavy metal content was noticed in the cowpea grain and haulm but values were found below critical limits in the both segregated and unsegregated USW compost treatments.en_US
