| dc.description.abstract | The studies on “Standardization of vegetative propagation of stevia (Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni) through stem cuttings by using growth regulators” was carried out at the Department of Horticulture, University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore during 2006-07. Matured stem cuttings of stevia were planted in kharif, autumn and summer seasons. The cuttings planted in kharif showed significantly early sprouting (12.52 days), high rooting percentage (54.25%), more number of sprouts (3.10), longest sprout (16.02 cm), more leaves (20.96), more number of roots (18.62), maximum root length (10.09cm) and recorded highest survival percentage (78.41%). With regard to length of cuttings 9 cm long cuttings recorded early sprouting (13.66days) and maximum rooting percentage (51.32%) with highest survival percentage (74.41%) compared to 6 cm long cuttings. Among the growth regulators used, the cuttings treated with a combination of NAA 2000ppm + IBA 2000ppm recorded early sprouting (11.00 days) with high survival percentage (73.65%). The cuttings treated with 1BA 2000 ppm recorded highest percentage of rooting (62.95%) Cuttings of 9 cm length treated with a combination of NAA 2000 ppm + IBA 2000 ppm planted during kharif season registered the highest fresh weight of roots (0.84 g) and maximum survival percentage (84.40%). The present study clearly indicated that, for vegetative propagation, of a delicate plant species like stevia, treating the cuttings of 9 cm length with IBA 2000 ppm during kharif season are very crucial for obtaining the highest rooting success. | en_US |
