Abstract
The present investigation entitled “ Effect of humic acid and potassium nitrate on growth, yield and quality of tuberose” was carried out at the farm of Horticulture Section, College of Agriculture, Nagpur from August, 2018 to January, 2019 with the objectives to study the effect of humic acid and potassium nitrate on growth, flowering, yield and quality of tuberose and to find out the suitable combination of humic acid and potassium nitrate for better growth, flowering, yield and quality of tuberose. The experiment was laid out in Factorial Randomized Block Design with three replications. The treatments comprised of four levels of humic acid viz., control , 0.05% HA, 0.1% HA and 0.15% HA and four levels of potassium nitrate viz., Control ,1% KNO3, 1.5% KNO3 and 2% KNO3 with sixteen treatment combinations The results of the present investigation indicated that, significantly maximum vegetative growth of tuberose in respect of earliest sprouting of bulbs, maximum sprouting of bulbs, shoots plant -1,plant height, number of leaves plant-1 and leaf area were recorded with application of 0.15% HA and 1.5% KNO3. In respect of flowering characters, minimum days to initiation spike, days to opening of first floret, days to 50 per cent flowering and days to first harvesting were recorded with application of 0.15% HA and 1.5% KNO3. The yield parameters viz., spikes plant-1, spikes plot-1, spikes ha-1, florets spike-1, bulbs plant-1, bulbs plot-1, bulbs ha-1, in tuberose were recorded maximum with the treatment of 0.15% HA and 1.5% KNO3. Similarly, The quality parameters in respect of length of spike, diameter of spike, length of floret, diameter of floret, length of rachis, diameter of bulb and vase life in tuberose were recorded maximum with the treatment 0.15% HA and 1.5% KNO3. However, interaction effect of humic acid and potassium nitrate in respect of all vegetative, flowering, yield and quality parameters were found non significant.
Description
