Abstract
The experiment was conducted at Horticulture Research Centre, Patharchatta, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, during the year 2008 and 2009. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design with three replications. The experimental trees were thirty years old, planted in square system at 10m x 10m spacing and received uniform cultural practices during the period of investigation. Ten treatments consisting of different organic manures (FYM (100, 125, 150kg/tree), Vermicompost (25, 50, 75 kg/tree), Poultry manure (25, 50, 75 kg/tree) and (uniform spray of vermiwash @ 10% in each treatment except control) and control. Different treatments involving the use of organic manures had a significant effect on yield and quality. Trees grown with FYM @ 150 kg/tree + 10% spray of vermiwash produced maximum tree height, tree spread, tree volume, total number of flowers. Maximum number of female flowers, shoot length, chlorophyll content, fruit set, fruit retention, average fruit weight, fruit volume, fruit yield and minimum fruit drop was obtained in treatment FYM@150 kg/tree +10% spray of vermiwash while minimum fruit cracking was obtained in treatment Vermicompost @ 75kg/tree+10% spray of vermiwash. Qualitative characters viz. TSS, ascorbic acid, titratable acidity, reducing sugars, non reducing sugars, total sugars were improved under the treatment Vermicompost @ 75kg/tree+10% spray of vermiwash. Maximum leaf N, P, was obtained in treatment FYM @150 kg/tree +10% spray of vermiwash and maximum K was found in Vermicompost @ 75kg/tree+10% spray of vermiwash. Maximum soil N, P and Zinc was obtained in FYM @ 150 kg/tree +10% spray of vermiwash while maximum K and Boron was found in Vermicompost @ 75kg/tree+10% spray of vermiwash. Vermicompost @ 75kg/tree+10% spray of vermiwash at 40C temperature had a shelf life of 14 days.
