STUDY ON PARTICIPATION IN DECISION MAKING, JOB PERFORMANCE AND JOB SATISFACTION OF ASSISTANT HORTICULTURE OFFICERS

Abstract
The study was conducted in the southern five districts of Kamataka namely Bangalore Rural, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Mandya and Tumkur during 2013-14 to assess the levels of participation in decision making, job perf01mance, job satisfaction and factors contributing for decision making of Assistant Horticulture Officers (AHO's) besides documenting their constraints and suggestions offered. A total sample of 80 AHO's were selected from 5 districts by applying proportionate random sampling technique.
The findings revealed that, nearly half (47.50 %) of the AHO's were in high level of participation in decision making. More than one third (38.75 %) of AHO's were having high level of job performance. More than half (62.40 %) of them were having medium level of job
satisfaction. Out of 14 independent vaiiables selected for the study, mass media participation, organizational commitment and job involvement were found positive and significantly related with participation of AHO's in decision making. Whereas, independent variables such as mass media participation and achievement motivation were, found positive and significantly related with job performance. While the independent variables such as mass media participation, job involvement and attitude towards work were found positive and significantly related with job satisfaction. Constraints experienced by majority of AHO's are, farmers were interested m inputs/subsidies rather than technology/information, followed by political interference m implementing programmes/schemes. The major suggestions offered by AHO's were higher incentives based on work load, followed by providing good audio visual aids and timely
sanctioning of programmes and release of budget for timely execution of the programmes.
