The present investigation on "Determination of Effective Concentrations of Azadirachtin Against Developmental stages of Spodoplltera Iitura (Fab.)" was carried out under laboratory conditions in the Department of Entomology, Agricultural College, Bapatla. during the year 1998-99. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomised block design with 8 treatments including control, replicated thrice, Azadirachtin as a formulation (NEEMAZAL—T/S 1% EC. 10,000 ppm azadirachtin, of M/S EID Parry (IND) Ltd, Chennai) was used as test chemical. With reference to antifeedant effect of azadirachtin by leaf dip method. the E050 value of III instar larvae of S.//‘i‘ura was 159.0 ‘ ppm. while the ECQO value was 563.52 ppm. Azadirachtin when tested for larval mortality against lll instar larvae of S.//'tura an LC50 value of 125.51 ppm was recorded by topical method and by ingestion method it was 110.20 ppm. With respect to inhibition of pupation, an EC50 of 17.27 ppm was recorded in ingestion method and 22.32 ppm in topical method. For inhibiting the adult emergence by ingestion method an EC50 of 18.71 ppm of azadirachtin was found essential compared to 26.13 ppm‘by topical method. With regard to reduction in fecundity of adults emerged from azadirachtin treated larvae of Slitura; an E050 of 18.74 ' ppm was recorded in ingestion method. whereas it was 38.95 ppm in topical method. With regard to ovicidal action of azadirachtin by egg dip method for one day old eggs of Slitura the E050 and the EC90 values were 157.49 ppm and 760.32 ' ppm respectively. On perusal of overall results it is evident that ingestion method of azadirachtin treatment was more toxic when compared to topical method. The results also indicated that feeding inhibition, larval mortality and ovicidal effects against Slitura Were observed to be significant at higher concentrations of azadirachtin (viz., 50, 75, 100, 125. 150. 175 and 200 ppm), whereas lower concentrations (Sub lethal concentrations) of azadirachtin (viz., 10, 15. 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 ppm) could effect pupation. adult emergence and fecundity of SlitLra.en_US
