T The present investigation entitled "Nursery studies on Parkia roxburghii G. Don” was conducted in nursery and laboratory of the Department of Silviculture and Agroforestry, Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan-173230 (HP) during 2014-2015. For experiment the seeds were graded into small (L1), medium (L2) and large size(L3) on the basis of length. The seeds subjected to seven pre sowing treatments were sown in potting mixture consisting of soil, sand and FYM in four different ratios. The experiment was laid out in nursery conditions in randomized block design (RBD factorial) with three replications to determine most suitable seed size, pre sowing treatment and potting mixture for germination, seedling growth and biomass production parameters of Parkia roxburghii. It was evident from the study that large size seeds (L3) excelled all other grades in all germination, growth and seedling biomass parameters. The seeds treated with boiling water and soaking for 24 hrs (T5) registered significantly maximum germination (39.72%), germinative energy (25.42%), germination capacity (46.94%), MDG (2.37), peak value (2.53) and survival percent (34.86%). The seeds sown in potting mixture consisting of soil, sand and FYM in ratio 1:2:4 (M4) registered significantly maximum germination, seedling growth and biomass production parameters. The non- significantly maximum total sugars (87.36 mg/gm), reducing sugars (41.78 mg/gm), non-reducing sugars (48.96 mg/gm), soluble proteins (35.98 mg/gm) and total phenols (3.19 mg/gm) were recorded various seed categories. In the Parkia roxburghii seedling shoot maximum total sugars, reducing sugars, non-reducing sugars, soluble proteins and total phenols were found to be 6.99 mg/gm, 2.69 mg/gm, 4.15 mg/gm, 2.96 mg/gm and 3.79 mg/gm respectively while in Parkia roxburghii seedling root maximum total sugars, reducing sugars, non-reducing sugars, soluble proteins and total phenols were found to be 4.87 mg/gm, 1.57 mg/gm, 3.34 mg/gm, 0.69 mg/gm and 2.54 mg/gm respectively.en_US
