Investigationswerecarriedouttounderstandtheeffectofpackaging material with paper shreads (Bamboo baskets (BB), Date palm baskets (DPB), Deal wood boxes (DWB), Corrugated fibre board boxes (CFB), Corrugated frrbre board with honey comb type (CFBHC) and Gunny bag (GB)) on transportation and various chemical (NaCl, GA3 and 2, 4—D) treatments subsequently to enhance the storage life of sweet orange Cv. Sathgudi, transportedfromTanagal toPostHarvestTechnologyLaboratory, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad and the studies were conducted in the Post Harvest Technology Laboratory, Department of Horticrrlture, College of A}!.I'ie‘rlltur(‘. Ruir‘urlraruurnr (luring the year l‘)‘)7. Among the different packagingmaterials tried, CFBHC was found to be effective in reducing the bruising percentage during transportation and subsequently rotting and l’LW during storage. The juice and peel content, acidity, ascorbic acid and orgarrolcptic score were also decreased gradually till the curl ol~ the storage period, whereas the total soluble solids, reducing sugars reached to the peak and then gradually declined as the storage period advanced. The physiological loss in weight was lower in CFB packed fruits treated with NaCl l per cent + GA} 500 ppm in all storage conditions. llighcrretention ofreducing sugars, acidity, ascorbic acid and organoleptic score was observed throughout the storage period with the Fruits treated withNaCl 1 per cent+ GA} 500 ppm, in all the conditions as compared to other treatments. Fruits treatedwithGA} 500 ppm -I-2,4—D 500 ppm significantly delayed the colour development by retaining green colour than any other treatments.en_US
