A field experiment entitled “Studies on recycling of mulberry stalk as biochar for assessing carbon sequestration, soil properties and crop production in mulberry (Morus alba L.)” was conducted in the farmer’s field at Sidlaghatta, Chikkabalapura (district) during 2020-2021 (Rabi 2020-21, Summer and Kharif 2021). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with eight treatments and replicated thrice. Among different treatments applied, combined application of biochar and FYM along with RDF (T8) soil application of biochar @ 10 t ha-1 + FYM @10 t ha-1 significantly improved the soil physical properties such as maximum water holding capacity (37.08%), aggregate stability (60.13%) and bulk density (1.29 Mg m-3) of soil over treatment T2 which received POP (FYM @ 25 t ha-1 + 350:140:140 NPK kg ha-1) and control (T1). The pH, electrical conductivity, organic carbon, major nutrients, secondary nutrients, DTPA extractable micronutrients status of soil, enzyme activities such as urease, dehydrogenase, phosphatase activity and soil carbon stock and carbon sequestration was significantly influenced with soil application of biochar @ 10 t ha-1 + FYM @10 t ha-1 + RDF T8 compared to treatments T2 (POP) and T1 (control). Growth and yield parameters like plant height, number of shoots per plant, number of leaves per shoot, chlorophyll content, leaf yield and nutrient concentration and uptake of nutrients were significantly higher in the treatment T8 compared to treatments T2 and T1. Higher B:C ratio of 1.40 was recorded in the treatment T8 compared to treatments T2 and T1.en_US
