Abstract
In the present study external Opthalmomyiasis
due to Oestrus ovis in 20 workers who worked
in close contact with sheep and goats was
investigated in an organised sheep farm located
at North Western agro climatic zone of Tamil
Nadu state, India. Incidence of external Opthalmomyiasis
occurred when the temperature is
low and the humidity and rainfall are high. The
morbidity was 85% in rainy season and 15% in
winter. The 75% of affected persons reported
the symptoms of eye problem and 25% reported
symptoms of cough, throat pain and foreign body
sensation. The present investigation creates
awareness among shepherds regarding zoonotic
importance of Oestrus ovis.
