Abstract
The symptoms ofleafspot and fruit rot caused by Al/crnar/a spp were described, Different isolates were collected from Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, Pathogenicity proved for all the isolates. Morphological and cultural characters were studied and found variation inAllernaria spp, The five isolates collected in Guntur district of AP. identified as Allerna‘ria a/ternala and A. lenuissima. The identification ofthe species was also confirmed by ITCC, New Delhi, A. te/mss/‘ma was found to be a newspeciesof/l/lernar/areportedforthe firsttimeonbrinjal inAP. ' Host range studies ofA.(emu/551nm was also studied. Significant differences were observed on growth and sporulation of 5 isolates. PDA found to be excellent medium for Isolates l, 4 and 5 but abundant sporulation was recorded on host leaf extract agar medium followed by FDA. The growth of all isolates was excellent on Czapek dox medium followed by Capsicum dextrose medium, where as heavy sporulation was recorded onhost leafextract medium for all the isolates. Isolate 2 and 3 showed maximum‘PDI on Nicotiana tobaccum. Similarly maximum PDI of isolate l and 5 were observed on So/a/mm nigrnnr where as isolate-4 produced maximum PDI on Datum melel. Isolate—5 found to be more virulant which recorded maximum PDI on brinjal followed by isolate-l. Colony characters ofdifferent isolates were observed and described. Percentage ofspore germination was found to be superior(80.57%)inisolate-5. Variety Gulabi showed resistant reaction against A. lenu/sxsima, APAU'selection—l and PPL were found to be moderately resistant against A. lemrissima, Four other varieties via, Bapatla local, Bhagyamathi, (IO—2 and Arka Kusumaker were found to be susceptible to Alternaria lenuisslma. Among fungicides Maneozeb (0.3%), Captafol (0.2%), Ziram (0.2%), Hexaconazole (0.0035%) and Propiconazole (0.0125%) completely inhibited the growth of Allernarr’a lemriss/ma in in vitro. Ziram (0.2%), 'Propiconazole (0.0125%) and Captafol (0.2%) were effective against the disease in in viva. Allium sazivum (15%) was more fungitoxic than other plant extracts and recorded highest inhibition of growth over COMIC] 1n poisoned food technique. Al/izim salivum (10%) was also found effective againstthedisease. Considerable reduction ingrowth was observed onAlliumsalivum (10%) after sterilisation, Spore germination of A. lennissima was inhibited by_ Al/ium Sativnm (10%) and Azaa’irachla indica(10%) concentrations, Lanlana camara was found to be not effective against Allei'naria lenuissima.
